Some people say don’t mix family with business. We say—it’s the best

decision we ever made.

We’re Mal and Coco: sisters, co-founders, and the duo behind

goldplaited. What started as a dream in Chicago has grown into a

multi-location beauty and fashion brand powered by trust, creativity,

and a whole lot of sister energy.

From Sisters to Sisterpreneurs

With an eight-year age gap, we didn’t grow up side by side. In fact, for

much of childhood, we were simply sisters. It wasn’t until adulthood

that we really found each other as friends—and then as business

partners.

That’s when the magic clicked. In 2013, we launched our first finishing

salon in Chicago, introducing a concept that didn’t really exist: a

place where women could get camera-ready beauty—hair and makeup designed

for events, photoshoots, and special occasions.

What makes us work as co-founders? The same thing that makes us work as

sisters: balance.

Expanding the Sister Brand

Over a decade later, our partnership has grown goldplaited into

something bigger than we could have imagined:

- Chicago flagship salons that shaped our foundation.

- Tampa expansion (March 1, 2023) bringing our finishing salon concept

to Florida.

- goldplaited | the boutique (June 2024), our side hustle turned

sister brand, curating apparel and accessories for the same women

who sit in our chairs.

Every chapter has been about evolving together—not just as business

owners, but as sisters.
